The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has responded to allegations arising from resurfaced social media posts by Nigerian singer Simi. The posts, dating back to 2012–2013 when the singer assisted at her mother’s daycare centre, recently re-emerged online and generated widespread public debate.
In an official statement, NAPTIP affirmed that it treats all credible reports relating to child abuse with utmost seriousness and encouraged individuals in possession of verified information to present it to the appropriate authorities. The agency emphasised that no allegations have been substantiated and clarified that any investigative process is contingent upon factual and verifiable evidence.
Responding to the controversy, Simi maintained that the posts were innocent reflections of her experiences at the time and criticised interpretations suggesting misconduct. As of the time of reporting, no formal charges have been instituted, and the matter remains under review.
