The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during its annual conference at the University of Lagos, to take decisive measures that would prevent the recurrence of strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other education unions. The MSSN emphasized the need for Tinubu to ensure a strike-free tenure.
The former Amir of the MSSN Lagos Chapter delivered a compelling speech at the conference, urging President Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize key areas such as education, youth empowerment, security, and economic and infrastructural development.
He expressed the collective sentiment of the group, stating, “As we move into a new dispensation of ‘Renewed Hope’ in our national polity, we are urging the federal government to pay more attention and improve education investment. We don’t want strikes again, and this can be achieved by investing more in education. It is a way to invest in peace as educated individuals are more likely to embrace dialogue, reject extremism and work towards resolving conflicts through peaceful means.”
Niyi Yusuf, the Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), also addressed the MSSN members during the conference, urging them to foster unity and accord serious attention to their education. Additionally, he recommended that they read the ‘Golden Age of Islam.’
