The UNIBEN Student Union Government (SUG) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the persistent power outages causing inconvenience to students and residents in Ekosodin and its surroundings.
Addressing the student body on 24th January 2024, Comr Osadolor Divine, the SUG Public Relations Officer, conveyed the Maverick executives’ commitment to addressing this issue. He highlighted their proactive approach, noting that the SUG President visited the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) office in Ekosodin to expedite the restoration of power supply.
“In recent days, Ekosodin and its surrounding areas experienced an unexpected power outage, causing inconvenience for both students and residents,” stated Comr Osadolor.
The President’s visit to the BEDC office aimed to swiftly resolve the lingering power situation, as expressed in the letter. The communique additionally outlined the Maverick Executives’ demonstration of dedication to students’ welfare during the electricity outage in the University of Benin a few weeks back. The ACJ UNIBEN gathered that the Maverick Executives proactively engaged with the school management until a 7.5MVA ABB Transformer was procured by the University.
“The Maverick Executives, reflecting their inclusive approach, acknowledged that the interest in resolving the power outage extended beyond the school premises. Their concern encompassed both students within the academic community and residents outside the school boundaries,” the letter emphasised.
After fruitful discussions with BEDC representatives, an agreement was reached to promptly restore power and maintain its consistency as soon as possible.
“This collaborative effort underscores the Maverick Executives’ dedication to fostering a conducive environment for both academic and community life,” the P.R.O concluded.
