On April 7, 2025, a series of coordinated attacks by unidentified gunmen in Plateau State, Nigeria, resulted in the deaths of 52 individuals and the displacement of nearly 2,000 residents. The assaults targeted multiple villages, including Kukawa, leading to significant loss of life and property.

The assailants, described by witnesses as heavily armed and riding motorcycles, invaded several communities, opened fire indiscriminately, and set homes ablaze.

In Kukawa village alone, 38 people were reported killed. Numerous houses were torched, and shops were looted. Residents recounted fleeing for their lives as the gunmen advanced, with some returning to scenes of devastation after the attackers had left.

The violence also led to the destruction of many homes and properties, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the affected areas.

In response to the attacks, the Plateau State government condemned the violence and called for immediate action to apprehend the perpetrators. Security agencies were deployed to the affected areas to restore order and prevent further incidents. The government also emphasized the need for community vigilance and cooperation with security forces to enhance the protection of lives and property.
