The Management of the University of Benin, on Thursday, 28 August 2025, demonstrated a strong disinclination towards the use of the university’s facilities for political or union events, including rallies and meetings, without prior approval on its two campuses.
This information was conveyed by the University Management through the University’s Public Relations Officer in a memorandum. The Management issued a directive to officials in charge of these facilities not to permit “the use of such facilities for purposes inconsistent with the mandate of the University as an academic institution.”
In addition, the Students’ Union, as well as staff leaders in the university, were advised not to engage in any activities that have not been approved by the Management or for which prior notice has not been given.
