On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, a University of Benin alumnus, Comr. Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, posted a viral video on her TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram pages, claiming that Hon. Osagie Bright Nosa (Brightest) had died in a fatal accident and that his body had been mutilated by suspected ritualists. In her video, she also criticised the Federal Government for its failure to address bad roads, allegedly contributing to the supposed accident.
However, Hon. Bright has publicly debunked the death claim, releasing a video where he confirmed that he is alive and in good health. He denied ever being involved in an accident and further alleged that Mama Pee has held a long-standing grudge against him since his days in the Students’ Union, even threatening to “assassinate” him multiple times.
In response, Mama Pee stated that Brightest has also been trolling and harassing her for a long time, calling her a prostitute and making other derogatory remarks about her. Her response suggested that their long-standing personal and political differences had contributed to their ongoing conflict, ultimately leading to the controversial video.
These revelations have caused a stir among students and alumni of the University of Benin, leaving many confused about the real motive behind the false claim. Further investigations suggest that Mama Pee’s claim was not merely a case of misinformation but rather an extension of personal grievances against Hon. Bright Nosa.
What started as a shocking claim of death, involving suspected ritualists, has now unravelled into a messy feud between two former student leaders, leaving the UNIBEN community divided over who to believe, and stand with.
