UNIBEN, a public research university sits on the seventh seat among the seats offered to Nigeria’s best Federal Universities. The great University of Benin was established on 23rd November, 1970. It was formerly known as Institute of Technology. It remains one of the greatest pioneers of Benin greatness. Talk more or less about the Great Benin Kingdom, UNIBEN is an achievement that cannot be overlooked.
Over time, UNIBEN has recorded 9 Vice Chancellors in total, male and female inclusive; and Professor Mrs Lilian Imuetinyan Salami is the current Vice Chancellor and also a part of the Alumni Association as she was formerly a student of the School.
One of the achievements UNIBEN is known for amidst other Nigerian Universities, is that UNIBEN is the first to have a female Vice Chancellor, Grace Alele Williams, who served from 1985-1991.
The school has bred many personalities occupying great positions in the country and beyond, in the likes of Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Co-founder Access Bank plc and founder & Chairman, Africa initiative for Governance; Mitchell Elegbe, GMD/CEO Interswitch; Bright Okpocha (Basketmouth) Comedian, among others.
However, the good works continues. Her good works in Nigeria cannot be underestimated. A standing Ovation for the great hands that contributed and is contributing to her greatness.
The University offers admission to an estimate of 75000 students in different prestigious courses including full-time and part-time students.

The conducive environment, classes, laboratories, staff rooms etc; improved water and power supply cannot be swept under the carpet. Estimate of standard and diligent 40 lecturers and 56 professors can be seen going at their works with eloquence of speech and the interest of students at heart.
UNIBEN vision and mission is being transported by knowledge of service and clothed in Purple, Gold and Yellow garment. She is seen toiling day and night for the success of her students. She might not be the best yet, but surely a great home of success.
