A lot of students have expressed mixed feelings about resumption, and the University of Benin undergraduates are not left out. However, even though some of the students are prepared to carry on with their academic activities given the very eventful 2020, it still remain uncertain how soon academic activities would commence in earnest despite the memorandum that the school management had circulated which specified February 1st as resumption date.
This morning, Campus Journalists visited the 1000 seaters Lecture Theater (also known as 1000LT) of the faculty of Life Science. On arrival, it was discovered that the theater was locked, while a few students loitered around the vicinity.
Recall that earlier, students were directed to report to their respective halls of residence on Monday as physical and online classes would commence on the same day.
According to our correspondent who monitored the trends of resumption, students within and outside the school environment while other returning students were cited gradually arriving the school premises.
Students were also encouraged to resume with smart devices, as online lectures would be inevitable. There seems to be an anticipation amongst students as regards the outcome of these classes, as the Covid19 plunged every one in the world into a digital frenzy.
Anonymous sources close to 100 level class rep of life science Iredia Michael Elegon who spoke to our correspondent, disclosed that lectures might not take place today but expressed optimism that the lecture hall would soon be opened for 100 level students to access.
As a drop of water that forms an ocean, the bit by bit resumption of academic activities by students and staffs of University of Benin is expected to culminate into full blown exercise any moment from now.
Before then, most students would have to adjust to life in the middle of a pandemic, after a long hiatus prompted by the national sports festival, and consequently, the coronavirus and the prolonged ASUU strike.
