Following the directive from the national body of the Academic Staff Union of Universities that today, Monday, 7th February, 2022 has been declared lecture-free day in Nigerian Universities, the Students’ Union Government of the University of Benin has react to the rumours that UNIBEN will cease all lecture activities for today.
In a communique released yesterday Sunday, 6th February, 2022 by the SUG’s Director of Information and Publicity, in person of Comr. Afolabi Olabiyi, it was explained that the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.(Mrs) Lilian Salami has not consented to the given directive on behalf of the school, buttressing that the ASUU Headquarters is yet to send a formal notice of today being a lecture-free day to the University of Benin management.
“The Vice Chancellor, Prof.(Mrs) Salami has explained that the ASUU Headquarters is yet to send a formal notice of tomorrow being a lecture-free day to the University of Benin management.
“However, it is possible that they (ASUU) will notify the school authority in the early hours of tomorrow after which further procedures will be taken.
“Until then, students are to go about their normal academic activities tomorrow until any otherwise message from the school authority. In summary, there will be classes tomorrow.” he stated.
