The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has warned that her administration will deal severely with any individual found involved in admission racketeering as the 2023/2024 Admission exercise commences. This act is said to involve illegal and unethical practices aimed at manipulating the admissions process at educational institutions.

She disclosed this on Monday, 20th of July 2023, during a meeting with the members of the Independent Indigenship Verification Committee (IIVC) ahead of the Indigenship Verification Exercise, which targets candidates of Lagos State origin who chose LASU as their first choice in the 2023 UTME and scored a minimum of 195. The registration for this exercise was said to have started today, 20th of July 2023 and will end on the 18th of August.

She said, “We are aware that some people have been collecting money from applicants with the promise of helping them secure admission. They have offices under the trees, shops, and even some staff offices.”

“Some of them will go about begging for admission for the candidates. I advise such people, in their interest, to desist from such acts because if they are caught, they will face the consequences. We have sent out the State Security Service (SSS) to be on the lookout and fish them out. We will not allow some people to give the University a bad name.”

She further advised students seeking admission and their parents not to pay money to any individual offering them admission into the University, as such an effort would fail. She also added that the University has set a cutoff score of 195 for candidates to be eligible for admission to the institution.
