By Osaro Matthew

Lagos State University management have succumb to demands of students by withdrawing the N10,000 fee added to the school fees after students staged a peaceful protest on Monday, July 8,2024.

The additional fee which was largely refuted and rejected by the students was for Computer Based Test (CBT), forensic and counselling.

Students described the fees as an extortion while carrying placards with inscriptions such as ‘Say No To 10k CBT Fee’, ‘Say No To Extortion’ , ‘Why CBT Fee?’ , ‘CBT Go Whine Us’.

Dolapo Tobun, LASU’s Student Union Leader led  the protest to get the management attention to intervene and address the issue.

“The union was not informed about the fee and only noticed the additional fee on the school portal”, he said.

Following the protest, the union leaders met with the school management which agreed to remove the fee. This was made known by Mr Samuel Kappo ,Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State
Governor on Students’ Union Affairs (Tertiary Education).

“I commend the students for their conduct during the peaceful protest. I also commend the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.
Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and the university management for its considerate decision,” he added.
