The 77,000 +1 students of the University of Benin have expressed utter disappointment, over the lack of empathy displayed by the school management as regards their cry for help in the form of a peaceful protest, which took place yesterday, on the 3rd of July, 2024.
Following the power outage in school, as a result of the hike in electricity bill, students have also been subjected to inadequate water supply.
They exercised patience, and hoped the school management would fulfill their promises, by resolving the aforementioned issues. But all to no avail.
They therefore embarked on a peaceful protest, to ensure that their voices would be heard all over the country, in a bid to solicit for help.
They were disheartened by the actions and memos released by some of the highly prestigious staff of the University, which showed that the school management could not relate to the plight of the students. This was said to have aggravated matters, as not only were the students more determined to carry on with the protest physically, but also online, as they took to their social media accounts to appeal to the conscience of the people.
With their exams fast approaching, they’ve shown signs of not relenting anytime soon, until the school management makes provision for constant water and adequate electricity supply, to aid their preparations.
“Every generation out of relative obscurity, must deliver their purpose, they will either fufil it or betray it.” Frantz Fanon.
