The Labour Party has firmly rejected the accusations made by former member and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abayomi Arabambi, regarding alleged inconsistencies in the educational records of their Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
Mr. Abayomi Arabambi raised these concerns during an appearance on an AIT program on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in response to Peter Obi’s recent press conference concerning the President Bola Tinubu Chicago State University (CSU) certificate controversy.
Arabambi, a member of the panel that assessed Obi before the party’s 2022 presidential primary, alleges that the name on Obi’s academic certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) does not match the name on his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
In response to Arabambi’s claims, Mr. Obiorah Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, stated in a phone interview with Vanguard on Thursday, October 12, 2023, “Arabambi is evidently acting on behalf of individuals who are determined to undermine our party and divert the attention of Nigerians from questioning the less-than-transparent credentials of President Bola Tinubu.
“He should explore other avenues. Our candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, is a well-known figure whose background, birth, educational history, and public service record have never been disputed.
“As our candidate himself stated publicly yesterday, some of his contemporaries from the University of Nigeria Nsukka are alive and even hold high positions in the university’s management team today, which can be verified.
“His certificates are in the public domain and can be examined by any interested Nigerian. Obi has not, and will not, employ a team of lawyers to block the release of his academic records—he has voluntarily disclosed them. We challenge Arabambi’s principal to do the same and spare our nation from further embarrassment.
