The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has insisted that labour wants to destroy the economy being rebuilt by the Bola Tinubu-led administration and also committed treason by shutting down the national grid.

Akume made this statement on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The former governor of Benue State said, “We are trying to rebuild the economy. The President is picking it up, and they want to destroy it. Of what use is that to all of us? That is not the way.

According to the former minority leader of the Senate, it is a treasonable felony to shut down the national grid, which constitutes economic sabotage. He further stated that the Joe Ajaero-led labour is the first in the world to tamper with the national grid.

Akume also decried the possibility of paying his driver N100,000 as a minimum wage because he has four drivers, stating that the wage increase demand made by the organised labour is unrealistic.

He also encouraged the church to collaborate with the government in providing facilities for people, whether in education, health, or agriculture.
