The Nigerian Communications Commission’s new Digital Park in Kano has reportedly been looted and set on fire by protesters. The park, which was set to be inaugurated next week, was intended to support the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
According to the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, the building was also torched after the looting.
The park was planned to play a key role in the 3MTT initiative, which aims to equip 3 million Nigerians with technical skills, and was also scheduled to host a buildathon holiday programme for secondary school students starting next week.
Minister Tijani expressed disappointment over the incident, calling it a setback for the programme’s goal of advancing technological expertise and creating job opportunities for the youth. He noted that the destruction represents a significant financial loss, with millions of Naira invested in the project now at risk.
