Minister Tunji Alausa, amidst recent controversy, swiftly refuted reports from several media outlets claiming that the federal government had scrapped the state’s basic education model—JSS and SSS—and replaced it with a 12-year education system.
The minister repeatedly emphasised that these reports were false and should be debunked immediately. However, he clarified that he had merely submitted a proposal to adopt a 12-year model while simultaneously retaining the 6-3-3-4 basic education system currently in place.
According to reports, this proposal had been misinterpreted by sections of the media, prompting the Ministry of Education to address and refute these misleading claims.
Minister Alausa further explained that the primary objective of the proposal is to eliminate examination barriers between JSS and SSS, ensuring a seamless transition for students during this crucial stage of their education.
