The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Monday, 5 May 2025, the statistical analysis of the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which commenced on 25 April 2025 and ended on 5 May 2025.
The Board provided a statistical breakdown of the examination to the general public to ensure transparency, offer performance insights, support policy planning, and promote accountability.
According to the data released by JAMB, “the results show that only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above, while 7,658 candidates (0.39%) obtained scores between 300 and 319.”
The category with the highest number of candidates was the 160–199 range, with 983,187 candidates (50.29%).
Additionally, 488,197 candidates (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159, while 57,419 candidates (2.94%) fell within the 120–139 range.
The Board also disclosed that 247 underage candidates were permitted to sit for the examination based on their exceptional abilities. However, only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) achieved scores that meet the qualification benchmark for exceptional ability as defined for the UTME, with their performance in the subsequent three stages still pending.
Furthermore, it was reported that 97 candidates were found to have violated the examination rules, while 2,157 others are currently undergoing investigations for suspected malpractice.
A total of 71,701 candidates were recorded as absent. Those who encountered biometric verification issues are under investigation, and those who are cleared will be rescheduled for examination at designated centres.
JAMB concluded by stating that the results of blind candidates and others categorised under the JEOG group are still being processed. The Board also announced that a press conference will be held later this week to ensure all candidates are properly guided on how to check their results.
