The Inspector General of Police has issued a stern warning concerning the ongoing protests in Nigeria. The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens during this period. Necessary measures have been put in place to facilitate the peaceful conduct of these demonstrations.
However, the Inspector General of Police firmly reaffirms that any attempt by miscreants to exploit the situation for violent purposes, such as vandalism, gangsterism, and extortion, will be met with a professional and lawful response.
“The Police will not tolerate any act that threatens the peace and well-being of our country,” stated Kayode Egbetokun. In light of the potential challenges posed by the planned protests, the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to deploy all available resources to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of our citizens.
The Inspector General of Police emphasized that violence would not be condoned in the supposed protest of the NLC and TUC. He cited past experiences of unrest in the country as the reason behind this warning.
While acknowledging the grievances raised by the Labour Unions, the Inspector General urges them to embrace peaceful protests for effective resolution. He calls on all officers and commissioners to remain vigilant and avert any forms of violence.
