The members of the Ogun State House of Assembly impeached the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, during a plenary session earlier today, 22nd January 2024.

The speaker was impeached on the grounds of embezzlement of funds by the members.

The representative of the Obafemi-Owode Constituency in the Assembly, Hon. Shoneye Damilola Kayode, speaking on behalf of the other lawmakers, confirmed Oluomo’s embezzlement and cited examples. He said:

“Let me give you a good example: the quarters allowance. When we came on board, the governor gave us money for renovation, and Oluomo, after giving members part of the money, took the remaining and embezzled it.”

Oluomo, a third-term lawmaker of Ifo State Constituency II, has now been replaced by another third-term lawmaker representing Odeda constituency, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.
