The newly appointed service chiefs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will today face screening from the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on June 19, 2023 retired all service chiefs, including the ex-Inspector General of Police and the ex-Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, and approved their replacements with immediate effect. The new service chiefs have since resumed office pending screening by the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, set up the committee headed by the chairman of the committee on defence in the 9th House, Rep Babajimi Benson (APC Lagos), for that purpose. Abass also announced all the 8 principal officers of the House from the majority and minority parties as part of the ad hoc committee.
The new service chiefs billed for screening today include Maj. Gen. C.G Musa (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj. Gen. T.A. Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral E.A. Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Vice Marshal H.B. Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).
