Federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives are planning to enact a bill that will introduce a single term of six years for the Nigerian Presidency and state Governors.
The lawmakers also intend to amend the 1999 Constitution to facilitate the rotation of power among the six geopolitical zones of the nation.
This was revealed by Ikenga Ugochinyere, the federal legislator representing Ideato South/Ideato North in Imo State, while speaking on behalf of the legislators in Abuja on Monday, 10 June 2024.
The lawmaker opined that the implementation of a six-year term for the President and Governors, along with measures to scrap inefficient expenditures and reduce wastage, would greatly enhance cost-cutting and efficiency in the governance system.
