A student of the University of Benin has been killed by an unidentified driver in Ogun State.
The victim, Odiah Michael was a 400-level student of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin, Benin City. Edo state.
The incident happened on Wednesday Morning as he was on his way to his place of Industrial Training (IT) in Ogun state. “It was a hit-and-run, car accident,” an anonymous source told ACJ_UNIBEN correspondent.
The announcement of Michael’s demise was made on Wednesday by the University of Benin Chapter Publicity Officer of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Ereremena Divine Elohozino, in a statement signed by the president of the Chemical Engineers’ society, Robinson Jonathan Madaki. It read:
“Greetings to you, great chemical engineering students.
“It is with sadness that I announce to you, the passing away of our very own beloved Michael Odiah, who we lost to the cold hands of death today 08/06/2022.
“He is loved and would be dearly missed. May God grant his family, friends, 400L chemical engineering students, and the department of chemical engineering the fortitude to bear such loss.
“Amen!!”
Some students of the Faculty of Engineering told ACJ_UNIBEN that several students have been lost to the cold hands of death in the last few months especially since the commencement of the warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which started on Monday February 14, 2022.
Concerned students are calling on the University of Benin community to be prayerful and careful in these trying times.
