Gunmen Strike Again, Abducting Female Students at University Residence

By Osaro Matthew

In the early hours of Wednesday at 2 a.m., a group of gunmen, suspected to be bandits, launched an attack on the student residence of the Federal University, Dutsin-ma, Katsina State. This horrifying incident resulted in the alleged abduction of five female students from the institution.

This occurrence follows a similar and deeply troubling event that transpired just one week ago when armed bandits targeted three female hostels in the Sabin Gida area of Zamfara State on September 22, abducting an unspecified number of female students from the Federal University of Gusau.

Despite ongoing insecurity that has plagued Nigeria for over a decade, there is a growing and distressing trend of kidnappings involving female university students. This alarming situation has understandably left both students and parents feeling anxious and deeply distressed.

The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, has confirmed the abduction of these students and has assured the public that investigations are underway. Measures are also being put in place to ensure the safe release of the abducted students.

As Nigerians eagerly await the release of the students from the Federal University, Dutsin-ma, from captivity, there remains a sense of skepticism regarding the ability of security operatives to effectively safeguard lives and property in the country, especially given the yet-to-be-resolved situation involving the abducted students from the Federal University Gusau.
