GOVERNOR OF TARABA STATE ORDERS 50% REDUCTION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ FEES

Governor of Taraba State ordeBy Gift Obiajuru Ukadikebuazua

Governor Agbu Kefas, the executive governor of Taraba State, made an unannounced visit to the state university to assess its condition. During the visit, he issued a directive for a 50% reduction in school fees for students of the institution.

The governor stated that the reduction aims to alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal by the federal government, which has created financial difficulties for some students in paying their fees.

Governor Kefas discovered that 53 courses offered by the institution are not accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Additionally, there has been an increase in school charges and poor conditions in the students’ hostels.

When meeting with the institution’s management, the governor requested a report on why some graduates of the university do not participate in NYSC mobilization or attend Law school.

The executive order regarding the reduction of school fees will be implemented in the upcoming 2022/2023 academic session, as indicated in a memo released to the public. The memo, signed by the university registrar, Joseph U. Bibinu, also mentioned that “a new schedule of fees will be communicated accordingly.
