Less than a month after students returned back to classrooms due to 8-months of a disturbed academic calender, The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has threatened to embark on another industrial action as they hold another meeting today November 7th, 2022, at the University of Abuja.
The meeting which is to discuss their decision on whether to embark on a fresh strike or not, is a result of F.G half salary payment to ASUU. ASUU calls the half payment of October salaries to members a breach of the agreement.
After ASUU finally put an end to its eight-month strike, which began on February 14th, 2022 till October 14th, 2022 due to the court’s order, another industrial action is perceived in view.
During the eight-month industrial action, the President, his Excellency Mohammed Buhari motioned for a No work, No pay policy to force ASUU back to work.
However, with the intervention of the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, it was said that F.G decided to overlook the policy and pay the unpaid and overdue salaries.
ASUU resumed work on October 14th, 2022 only to receive half of October salary payments some weeks after.
“You will hear from us,” ASUU says.
