Reported by: Ayoola Adeleke

The Department of Microbiology, faculty of life sciences in the University of Benin has constituted a special panel to investigate a 400 level student, Miss Peace Ufoma.

Ufoma was reportedly spotted on a picture that has gone viral on social media as she claimed with a bold inscription on her white shirt that she was able to graduate with the help of aggressive examination malpractice.

The development has generated severe reactions within and outside the University walls with the public questioning the ethics of such disposal by a graduating student.

Why most social media users took to their handles to blame the University for encouraging heightened involvement in examination malpractice, questioning the school’s integrity and standard, others upheld that the student might have been carried away by the euphoria of programme completion.

Following the uproar, the head of department of Microbiology, Prof S.E. Omonigho has appointed a six member committee to carry out intensive query on the alleged student.

The high level panel is saddled with the following responsibilities:

  1. To investigate Peace Ufoma’s involvement in any examination malpractice.
  2. To find out what actually transpired about the online publication.
  3. To scrutinize Peace Ufoma’s result till date including all her exam scripts.
  4. To scrutinize all marking scheme for all her courses.
  5. To find out how true is the inscription on her shirt.
  6. To find out if she truly did malpractice?
  7. To provide any other useful information on the matter.

In a memo officially signed by the leadership of the department, the committee has only one week to conclude its assignment.

Meanwhile, there are strong speculations that the controversial Miss Peace Ufoma would have to forfeit her admission if suddenly found guilty of examination malpractice. A brutal loss for a student who had already completed her studies.

As the committee commences enlisted probing into the matter in order to beat the one week deadline, whatever would be the fate of Ufoma, everybody is interestingly watching.
