The Federal Government of Nigeria has henceforth revoked posting restrictions in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Comrade Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for Youth Development, in a memo sent out on November 18th 2024 to the NYSC Director General, stated that this new directive was to take effect from the start date of the 2024 Batch ‘C Orientation Course.

During the tenure of former Minister Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the posting policy was limited to four sectors which were the Educational Agricultural, Health, and Infrastructural sectors. However, the President with the intention to ensure all government ministries, agencies, and parastatals operate in harmony with the overall vision of his administration had taken this step towards his pre-stated goal.

The Former Minister had argued that due to the government funding the NYSC, many individuals were no longer employed because of the easy access to labour. Noting that the Minister was correct in his own right, he stated that many corps members who required specialised training in their areas of study were affected by the posting policy and as such missed out on first-hand experience that would have effectively prepared them for the job market.

“Therefore, as we battle the unemployment crisis, there is an urgent need to review this policy to expand the opportunity and access for corps members to serve in places that are relevant to their areas of study.” Comrade Ayodele Olawande said, adding that corp members be posted to banks and other private sectors including the oil and gas sectors with the commencement of this directive to begin in Abuja and Lagos
