In an exhilarating climax to the Group B matches at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Nigeria Falcons soared to the next stage, securing their spot in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, co-host Australia emerged victorious to top Group B.
The final round of matches took place simultaneously on July 31, 2023, as Nigeria faced a tough challenge against Ireland’s women, and co-host Australia locked horns with Canada.
Following co-host New Zealand’s exit after failing to advance past the group stage, all eyes were on co-host Australia, who had to secure a win to secure a spot in the Round of 16. The Matildas did not disappoint, defeating Canada and finishing at the summit of Group B with 6 points.
The Nigeria Falcons put up a spirited performance in a goalless draw against Ireland, earning them the second spot in Group B with 5 points. Now, both teams eagerly await the winners from Group D, who will face off against them in the Round of 16 on August 1, 2023.
