Ekosodin, which has been and is still home to many University of Benin students has been of great value and relevance in the history of Unibenites for many years now. The fact that this town in Benin city, Ekosodin, has been a great community to its members cannot be overruled.
However, any issue faced in this community, to a large extent, is a threat to the well being of Uniben Students.
The road, Ogunrobo, has been bad for many years and untouched by change. Defects caused by erosion can by seen on the road. The road is not great for pedestrians, talk less of motorists and cyclists. The road being bad would be an understatement as the slightest injury as fracture of the ankle is easily caused by the road and the phrase “easy oo, be careful” is common on the lips of pedestrians, one to another as they pass by.
Great thanks to Osato Chemist who made a light extension from his shop to the road to grant the passersby a clear view of the road at night. According to him, road constructors were given the contract to construct the road the same time Newton road was in construction but till date, Ogunrobo road has not been touched. He said, they were told that Ogunrobo road was on a second batch construction list but nothing was done. The community is doing nothing too.
“The road has gotten so bad now that it might affect Newton gutter, Newton road and most importantly, there is a transformer on this road and if care is not taken, it can affect it, equivalent to blackout in most places in Ekosodin for many years.”, he said.
An unknown student’s life is in future danger. Ogunrobo, is a road that constantly counts over a hundred passers everyday; meaning if the gutter at the beginning of the road, taking Osato side, is to fall, there is a great possibility it will affect a student. More so, if the gutter falls, the road(newton) will fall too and can affect the transformer, leading to no light for Uniben students that might be living in affected areas. An unknown community member’s life is in danger also, as harm can come to anyone.
A store owner after Bethany School asked, ” will the road be fixed?”.
Or should we wait for someone’s obituary before the road is fixed?
Rainy season is around the corner!
Danger looms in the air, should we wait for its arrival before action is taken?
