The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three suspects on Sunday, 8 February 2026, in connection with the abduction of a medical doctor and the murder of his younger brother in Auchi, Edo State.
According to police findings, the incident occurred on 2 January 2026, when the medical practitioner was reportedly kidnapped by suspected criminals operating within the Auchi axis. During the attack, the doctor’s younger brother was killed, an act that sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in Edo North.
Police authorities disclosed that the arrests followed sustained investigations and intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Command. The suspects were apprehended during coordinated operations after security agents successfully traced key leads linked to the abduction and the fatal attack.
Sources within the Command indicated that the arrests were made possible through coordinated surveillance and cooperation from members of the public, who provided relevant information that assisted in tracking the suspects.
The Edo State Police Command stated that investigations were ongoing, as efforts were intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal group believed to have participated in the kidnapping and murder. The Command further assured residents that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The incident continued to raise concerns among residents and professionals across Edo State, particularly regarding the safety of individuals travelling within the northern part of the state, where reports of kidnapping had increased in recent months.
Meanwhile, the Police Command reiterated its commitment to strengthening security operations across Edo State and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
