The Sahel Nations of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have exited the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) following their suspension from the organization.

These states, which are currently under military regimes, had their leaders issue a statement on Sunday, January 28, 2024, announcing their decision to exit the community.

The regimes of these states have had tense relationships with the regional bloc (ECOWAS) since coups took place in Mali (2020), Burkina Faso (2022), and Niger (July 2023). These states were suspended from ECOWAS and faced heavy sanctions from the regional bloc.
