The Department of English and Literature, best known for its creative nature and breeding of people of like minds has put up a theatrical festival performance to showcase its creativity, which is slated for two days, the 13th and 14th of April, 2023; in Faculty of Arts 1000 lecture theatre, by 12 PM prompt.

The event tagged “Eclipse” is coordinated by Agu Prince Ogba; a young Writer, Film director, Actor, Entrepreneur, Teacher, Lover of God, and a graduate of the prestigious department, Educational Foundation (DEF) English and Literature i.e the department of English and literature under faculty of Education. He became an alumnus of this department at the end of the 2020/2021 academic session in the year 2022. He is the coordinator and artistic director of ELSA PLAYHOUSE, the body organizing this event.

“I have been in theatre for the past ten years now, I started when I was much younger”, he said. Aside from participating in school plays production, he has directed three plays for the ELSA PLAYHOUSE; “Farewell To Cannibal Rage” written by Femi Osofisan, “Dark Times Are Over” written by Obafemi, and “Efunsetan Aniwura” by Isiola Akinwunmi. Lagos seems to have a print of him as he had acted and directed a couple of plays in it.

His play “JOIN BODI” will be staged in this upcoming event, as also the popular Efunsetan Aniwura. The event will be featuring Drama, Poetry, an Arts Exhibition, F.M.E Academy, Theatre Arts Department, Ekewan Campus, and many more. Events tickets which go for a thousand naira each are available at the ELSA secretariat located right under the Department of English and Literature building or the ENL department.

This is a beautiful history of the English and Literature department as this has been in occurrence for 37 years now. It aims at keeping the theatre breathing and giving it a voice to speak. Every semester, ELSA playhouse produces a demonstration via stage play. “This has been a tradition for the past 37 years. So customarily, it is my time as coordinator of ELSA PLAYHOUSE to stage a play”, Agu mentioned.

This year’s show promises to be one of a kind. Agu Prince says, ” Be sure to be there”.
