DSS Rearrests CBN Governor Emefiele After Bail Grant Sparks Dramatic Courtroom Brawl

By Raymond Ebireri

Earlier today, the suspended CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, was forcefully whisked away from the court premises by the Department of State Services (DSS) after the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos granted him bail.

Emefiele was arraigned in court over allegations of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He pleaded not guilty to the two charges leveled against him. The presiding judge, Nicholas Oweibo, granted him bail based on the submissions of Emefiele’s counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN). The bail terms included a sum of #20 million and one surety in the same amount. The judge further ordered that Emefiele be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

Drama ensued at the end of the judgment when officials of the Nigeria Correctional Services attempted to take custody of the embattled CBN governor. They were challenged by operatives of the DSS, which led to a brawl at the courtroom premises. Consequently, the DSS whisked away the embattled CBN governor in their custody.
