Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has revealed the unlikely circumstances under which he met his fiancée, Janet Atom, describing their encounter as “divinely scripted.” The couple announced their engagement last week through an Instagram reel set to Spyro’s hit single, Wife Material, which quickly went viral.

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin Minds, Spyro clarified that their first meeting took place in a professional setting, not a church as some fans had assumed. “She was working in the club, not going to the club,” he said. “She didn’t go there to party. She was there working. I was also there to work.”

Spyro recounted that the meeting occurred in March 2024 during a promotional tour. He described being immediately drawn to Janet, saying, “Something welled in my spirit because I singled her out amidst many people… I could not take my eyes off her and could not stop a feeling in my spirit.” He added that he waited in his car for nearly an hour until her shift ended to finally speak with her.

The singer later discovered that Janet had been working at the club to support her family after losing her father. “And we connected. I was like, well, would you like to work elsewhere? Because I’m intrigued, I’m fascinated by women who work,” he explained.

Spyro also tied the encounter to his long-standing songwriting, noting that Wife Material was written nine years before he met Janet. “Fast forward to now, the same Janet that I sang about… everything I said in the song is precisely who I’m getting married to,” he said, adding that receiving names or images in dreams has often inspired his music.

Since the engagement announcement, fans and fellow artists have flooded social media with congratulatory messages.
