Delta State Governor’s Trade and Export Aide, Mrs. Love Shimite, Reportedly Dies from Suspected Food Poisoning

Gabriella Chinwendu Ayigbo

On Sunday, 20th of April 2025, the late Shimite was confirmed dead at St. Luke’s Hospital, Asaba.

Following her death, and with all fingers pointing at her husband over the mysterious circumstances, he was quickly taken into police custody.

Reports stated that the late Mrs. Shimite’s maid had earlier called the deceased’s brother because she was perturbed that the deceased’s husband, Pastor David, had locked her in all day. When Shimite’s brother arrived at her residence, it was already too late—she was cold, with foam coming out of her mouth.

According to family sources, since she got married to her husband, she became a totally different person. He allegedly monitored and controlled her movements, followed her to almost every function, and took possession of her properties, changing the ownership of all of them to his name. People believed she was held spellbound by her husband, as her behavior wasn’t considered normal.

Whenever the late Shimite was confronted about the situation by family and friends, she would defend her husband, saying he was a pastor and her spiritual father. An anonymous relative confirmed that the deceased was hale and hearty a day before the tragedy. They had spoken at length over the phone, but when the relative sent her an Easter message the next day, she didn’t respond.

The relatives of the deceased believe that her husband manipulated her because he was intimidated by her wealth and beauty. The late Shimite was also the CEO of the Quintessential Group and the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency during Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure.

Her corpse is still in the mortuary as the police continue their investigation into the matter.
