The 2023/2024 football season kicks off with the highly anticipated FA Community Shield clash between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in London on August 6th, 2023, at 4 pm (CAT).
Last season, Manchester City achieved an incredible treble, securing their fifth league title in six seasons, along with victories in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. However, Arsenal, despite spending an astonishing 248 days at the top of the Premier League table, couldn’t clinch the title, creating an unwanted record as the first English top-flight team to stay at the summit without winning the championship.
Arsenal started the season in blazing form, maintaining dominance for the majority of the campaign. Nevertheless, a dip in performance during the final stretch allowed Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to overtake them at the top, ultimately sealing their seventh Premier League title since the Arab takeover. Arsenal’s hopes were shattered after suffering a crucial 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on May 20th, which cemented City’s triumph.
With both teams actively bolstering their squads in the transfer market, the Community Shield match will also provide fans with an opportunity to witness the debut of new signings. Manchester City has added the Croatian duo of Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol from Chelsea and RB Leipzig, respectively, enhancing their already formidable squad. On the other hand, Arsenal has acquired talents like Kai Havertz from Chelsea, Jurren Timber from Ajax, and their record signing Declan Rice from West Ham United, aiming to strengthen their ranks for the upcoming season.
As the new Premier League campaign dawns upon football enthusiasts, all eyes will be on Wembley Stadium as Arsenal and Manchester City battle it out for the first silverware of the season in the Fa Community Shield match.
