Chelsea Defeat PSG to Win Inaugural Club World Cup Final 2025

By Funmilayo Bayo

Chelsea delivered a masterclass in determined football to lift the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup title, securing a commanding 3–0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, 13th July 2025, at the MetLife Stadium.

Just 22 minutes into the match, Cole Palmer opened the scoring with a confident finish. Eight minutes later, he struck again—this time with a well-placed left-footed shot following an intelligent pass from Levi Colwill—giving Chelsea a 2–0 lead.

The Blues were far from finished. In the 43rd minute, Palmer turned provider, setting up João Pedro with a brilliant assist. Pedro coolly chipped the ball in with his right foot, sealing a 3–0 lead for Chelsea before the half-time whistle.

Despite their dominance, the first half was not without drama. Chelsea received three yellow cards: João Pedro was booked for time-wasting, Moisés Caicedo for kicking the ball away in frustration, and Malo Gusto for committing a tactical foul to halt a PSG attack.

Still, Chelsea remained composed and disciplined. PSG struggled to find any breakthrough, with Chelsea’s defence refusing to concede even a glimpse of goal despite the French side’s persistent efforts.

The victory marked another significant milestone under manager Enzo Maresca, following May’s UEFA Conference League triumph. Chelsea’s Club World Cup success brings an additional £90 million in prize money to Stamford Bridge.

It was, indeed, a moment of poetic irony—Chelsea, a team once doubted, now proudly lifting the first-ever trophy of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
