The management of the University of Benin has made a statement on the ongoing campus shuttle issues which has seen different unfounded allegations against the management flying around on social media.

Fact-checking a viral video that has alleged the school management to have sent the campus shuttle buses packing, ACJ UNIBEN took out time to speak to the University’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, PhD, for clarification and the true nature of the allegations.

In her word, the University image maker said the viral video is nothing, but mere clout chasing video cooked up by an uninformed individual.

She said, “It has come to the notice of the Management of the University of Benin that operators of the intra-campus shuttle vehicles have downed tools following Management’s disapproval of their arbitrary increase in transportation fare from 30 naira to 50 naira.”

“In the interim and until further notice, all Uniben buses are to be deployed to the gates and bus park between the hours of 8 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 5 pm to ameliorate any challenges by staff.”

The statement further plead with members of staff to extend to each other vehicular assistance while this matter is being addressed by key stakeholders;
“Members of staff are also enjoined to pool vehicles to support one another.”

“Management is desirous that proper negotiation between all stakeholders is held soonest to arrive at a generally agreed fare.”

While delivering the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami’s new year wishes, the image-maker posited that the latest development of an ongoing meeting with stakeholders will be made known to the University community momentarily.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami wishes the entire Uniben community a happy and most prosperous new year.”

“A stakeholders meeting has been held this evening and the latest development will be relayed soonest”, she quipped.
