The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Edo State Chapter, on Tuesday, 25 February 2026, announced a scheduled power outage affecting parts of Benin City to facilitate critical maintenance works.
In an official notice issued by the company, the maintenance will be undertaken on the 15MVA, 33/11kV Power Transformer T1 at the Nekpenekpen Injection Substation.
The exercise is slated to commence on Thursday, 27 February 2026, at 08:00 and conclude on Saturday, 4 April 2026, at 17:00. The planned outage will enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to execute construction works on the turn-in and turn-out of the Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV single-circuit transmission line at the Ihovbor Power Plant Substation.
Areas expected to be impacted include University of Benin and its environs, Ugbowo and its environs, Oluku and its environs, Upper Sakponba and its environs, Ihovbor, Egba and surrounding communities.

BEDC apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause and assured customers and stakeholders that the intervention is necessary to reinforce transmission capacity, increase energy supply to the national grid, and enhance overall service reliability. The company further expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation and understanding throughout the maintenance period.
