Bayero University, Kano, has revealed plans to buy bicycles for its staff. This is to cushion the effect of the hike in transportation fares caused by subsidy removal.
The University’s 56th congregation meeting was held on Saturday, July 22, 2023. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Abbas, said, “The University is negotiating on buying bicycles for junior staff to cushion the effect of the hike in transportation fares. I have witnessed staff trekking a 10-kilometer distance from the old campus to the new.”
The Vice-Chancellor also added that there is an arrangement with the Kano state government to provide buses that will convey students and staff from specified locations and back at affordable prices. He also assured staff that they could access soft loans at any time.
The University has also allocated millions of naira to the University’s cooperative committee to purchase foodstuffs and distribute them to the staff at a non-interest rate payable in six months.
