The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG) Chapter, Mr Dele Ashiru has said that the Nigerian Government, if serious, can resolve its issues with the striking lecturers across the country in 24-hours.

In a video obtained by our correspondent, Mr Dele made this statement in an interview with TVC News Nigeria on Wednesday.

He said, “It’s all a matter of will. We don’t have to sit down with the president. If those he has delegated to are working conscientiously and patriotically, they could reach an agreement and take before the president, explain to him honestly, the situation and this matter resolved. If government is serious, this matter can be resolved in 24-hours, all of them, because the issues are clear.

Mr Dele further lamented about the low salary earned by professors in the country. “The highest paid professor in Nigeria today earns N416,000. That is less than a thousand dollars. There is nowhere in Africa where a professor is so poorly paid. Shouldn’t that prick the mind of the president, government agencies and all that? So what we are saying is that we deserve to be respected,” he stated.
