Observers of the tussle between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) might have predicted a successful end to the combat between the two war lords.

However, this assumption seems to stand far from the reality as ASUU blows hot again.

Today, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU have accused the federal government of failing to implement the agreement reached on January after the recent lingering strike by the union.

In a statement issue by ASUU President, Victor Emmanuel Osodeke to newsmen after a meeting with other executive members of the union, the academic body vowed to ground all academic activities in all the nation’s public universities if the government fail to fulfill her promises by the end of August.

“If the federal government fail to honor the agreement with ASUU before the end of this month, the country should blame the government over what happens next”. Says Prof Osodeke, ASUU President.

It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities had on 23rd December 2020 suspended its nine months strike after reaching a common ground with the federal government while maintaining that the University lecturers would be forced to shun school activities if Nigerian Government reneges on its commitment to the resolving the issues raised by the Union which include exemption of members from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System IPPIS, payment of outstanding salaries and arrears among others.
