The University of Benin SUG Director of Finance, in the person of Comr. Bienose Eghosa is set to host an Economy Development Summit (EDS’24) holden at the famed Festus Iyayi Hall in the UNIBEN Ugbowo Campus.
The EDS’24, themed ‘DOMINANCE: The Emergence of Business Career and Financial Leaders,’ is slated to be held on the 23rd of February, 2024, at 9AM GMT+1, and will offer some promising benefits ranging from grants and branded items to free business registrations.
According to data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics, ACJ UNIBEN learnt that in the first quarter of 2023, Nigeria saw a 2.31% increase in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compared to the previous year. This growth rate was lower than the 3.11% observed in the same quarter of 2022 and the 3.52% from the last quarter of 2022. The decline in growth is attributed to the negative impacts of the cash shortage experienced during the period.
The Services sector primarily drove the GDP performance in Q1 2023, with a growth of 4.35%, contributing 57.29% to the overall GDP. Conversely, the agriculture sector experienced a decline of -0.90%, contrasting with the 3.16% growth seen in Q1 2022. While the industry sector’s growth improved to 0.31% compared to -6.81% in Q1 2022, both agriculture and industry sectors made smaller contributions to the overall GDP in the reviewed quarter compared to the same period in 2022.
The speakers expected to grace the EDS’24 include Osayi Tres Omokaro, a business and wealth coach cum consultant; Andrew Igbineweka, the founder of Goabitfurther Africa; Marvellous Aigbe, a student parliamentarian and CEO of THEARVE limited; Ozor Jessica, CEO of Revlink Sol; Uncommon Emmanuel, a finance coach; and Osayogie Effort, a real estate marketing and sales coach.
Given the seemingly negative trajectory in recent times over the economic clime of the country, the event promises to be an insightful one proffering long-term solutions and is open to all to attend as no fee has been attached to the entry.
