Does sugar ever kill the ant? A Yoruba adage says “nibi ti adun wa ni era nwo to” – “where sugar is, ant finds it.”
Surprisingly, ants sometimes die in sugar. But why? Sugar is sweet, ant loves it, and amongst everyone love it. For ant, sugar is life, but how on earth does sugar become its grave?
How marvelous! What could have happened? Covetousness? Greediness? Or it dwelt in the sugar for too long? Corruption? Maybe corruption took place.
What should have given it life, has become its death. Maybe the ant was killed by a fellow ant.
Can this be likened to Nigeria? Nigeria is like the ant and the sugar is Nigeria’s geography and endowment.
Surprisingly, with all of Nigeria’s endowment, she still perishes in her own geography. Her geography which is supposed to give her life is seeming like her death sentence. What happened to her in the sugar? What happened to Nigeria in her geography?
Ages back, her geography was life everlasting. She goes in and out of the sugar triumphantly and it in turn sustains her during the rainy season (times of need). She got surplus in stock. Now, what has happened? Covetousness? Has she exhausted the sugar? Or is the sugar wet? Corruption? Maybe corruption took place. Maybe Nigeria was killed by a fellow Nigerian.
