On 22nd January 2024, Nigeria’s Super Eagles played a match against Guinea-Bissau in Abidjan, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Super Eagles. Qualifying for the round of 16 as the 2nd-ranked team in Group A with 7 points, they trailed behind Equatorial Guinea, who secured a 4-0 victory against the host country, Côte d’Ivoire.

The only goal recorded in the match was an own goal by Guinea-Bissau’s defender, Opa Segente, who attempted to prevent the ball from reaching Victor Osimhen. The other three goals were disallowed. Osimhen had two goals disqualified for handballs, while Guinea-Bissau’s Franculino Dju had a goal ruled out for being offside.

The 1-0 victory ensured the Super Eagles’ qualification for the round of 16, marking the end of Guinea-Bissau’s journey in the 2024 AFCON. Nigeria’s next match will be against the second-ranked team in Group C, which could be Senegal, Cameroon, or Guinea.
