In preparation for AFCON 2025, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn into Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, alongside Benin Republic, Rwanda, and Libya, who will all battle for a spot in the tournament.
The draw was held in South Africa on Thursday to determine the teams that will compete on their way to Morocco, where the tournament will be held in 2025.
The AFCON qualifiers feature 48 countries divided into 12 groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from eleven groups qualifying directly for the finals, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
The Super Eagles were runners-up in AFCON 2023, but they now have the chance to win the trophy if they qualify for the tournament by topping Group D. After a loss to Benin Republic in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Super Eagles will be eager to avenge that defeat to secure their place in AFCON.
The Super Eagles have won the AFCON three times and will be eager to claim their fourth title after losing to Ivory Coast. The Nigerian football team has yet to hire a coach to lead them on this journey.
