On Thursday, July 6, 2023, the Social Sciences Students’ Association’s Parliament, UNIBEN Chapter, conducted an in-house election that saw the emergence of a new Speaker of the Parliament.

Earlier, the first Speaker elected by the Honourable Members of the Parliament tendered her resignation, leaving the Deputy Speaker to act in the capacity of the Speaker pending a new election.

Today, Rt. Hon. Adams Kelvin emerged as the Speaker of SOSSA’s Supreme Parliament unopposed. He emerged unopposed because no other parliamentarians indicated interest in the Speakership position. He was sworn in by the Electoral Commissioner of the association (SOSSA), Paul Augustine Danchaba, and the ceremony was witnessed by the Staff Adviser and Deputy Dean of the faculty, Dr. Iro Aghedo.

The Parliament is composed of six departments in the faculty, including Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology and Anthropology, Social Work, and Geography & Regional Planning, with two representatives from each level of the six departments, excluding the 100 level students.

The new Speaker of SOSSA’s Supreme Parliament, Rt. Hon. Adams Kelvin, is a final-year student of the Political Science Department. He became a member of the faculty’s Parliament as a final-year student and has now been entrusted with the responsibility to navigate the Parliament with integrity and honesty
