The Association of Campus Journalists, University of Benin, paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). The visit took place at the Oba Oguola Press Center of the NUJ, Edo State Council on Friday, April 11, 2025.

The meeting, which started at about 1:05pm, aimed at introducing the association to the body of professional journalists in the state, seeking the possibility of collaborative opportunities.

The Secretary of the union opened the meeting,  introducing the executives of the union present, including Mr. Festus Alenkhe, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.

After proper introductions, the President of the ACJ UNIBEN, Zainab Bakare, stated the reasons for the visit to the union. Expressing her desire for ACJ UNIBEN to collaborate with the NUJ on journalistic activities within the University of Benin campus and in Edo State, she stated that she wants the Union to be aware that “an association like this exists on campus”.

Mr. Festus Alenkhe, in a brief address, commended the association’s work and expressed a desire to collaborate with the association. He also gave profound advice to the executives, stating the necessary steps that are needed to become a professional journalist and a full member of the union.

The meeting ended on a productive note, pointing to the possibility of a lasting collaboration between the union and the association.
